Creation date: 3/1/2007 Revision date: 3/4/2021.

This guideline supplements the DOH Pain Management Rules requiring best practices in the prescribing of opioids. It also includes recommendations for using opioids after acute injury or surgery and in special populations (pregnant women, pediatrics, elderly, and cancer survivors); for using alternatives to opioids; and when to initiate treatment of opioid use disorder.
