The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), presents this FREE CME activity. L&I designates the following online CME activities for a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. L&I is accredited by the Washington State Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. As a public agency and an accredited provider of CME, L&I does not accept support or sponsorship from commercial interests, nor are they involved in any part of CME activities. All CME contributors must disclose any relationship with commercial parties, and must be free of any real or potential conflicts of interest.
These activities meet the criteria for up to 3 hours of Category 1 CME credit to satisfy the re-licensure requirements of the Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission. This CME activity is effective until March 4, 2024.

This guideline supplements the DOH Pain Management Rules requiring best practices in the prescribing of opioids. It also includes recommendations for using opioids after acute injury or surgery and in special populations (pregnant women, pediatrics, elderly, and cancer survivors); for using alternatives to opioids; and when to initiate treatment of opioid use disorder.
